Weekend Wrap Up: 14/11/15
18 Nov 2015 by Jamo Pryor
B Grade vs Yea Tigers
Our B Graders got back on the winners list at the weekend when they hosted Yea. Winning his first toss for the year, Wilko chose to bat. Openers Pete Campbell and Joey Ryan got things going early, scoring at a decent clip. Joe played his way to 15 before he skied one up to square leg. CJ Wittig joined Pete, however his stay was only short, falling LBW for a duck. Jamo came out and played the anchor role, as Pete was up the other end creaming it to all parts of the ground. The pair pushed the score to 78 before Pete skied a rank half tracker for a well made 47.
Damo joined Jamo, and the two put on 30 with no risks involved. The over before drinks saw Damo’s downfall, as one got through his defence for 19. After drinks, new player Jayson Meade looked busy early, but fell for 7. Pat Ryan strolled out with the score at 5/118 in the 25th over, and began to score quite freely. Jamo, who had been batting for some time, fell to a good catch off a leading edge five overs later for 32. Pat Ryan continued to score fast, notching up his fifty before being caught soon after for 55. A late cameo from Jess Donnelly (28no) pushed Pyalong’s score to 9/241 from their 45 overs.
In the field, a dropped catch first ball gave up an ideal start. However with Damo and Jess bowling fast and accurate, the chances were only going to come. Both bowlers bowled their 9 overs straight up, with the score 1/51 from the 18 overs completed. The pressure they built meant Kyle, Wilko and Harv could all do their thing, as they ripped the middle order apart to have Yea 9/80, however a stubborn stand from the last wicket kept us out in the field, as Yea finished at 9/113 from their 45 overs.
Pyalong 9/241

C Grade vs Kilmore White
Kilmore won the toss and sent Pyalong into the field. Mikey and Sheepy opened the bowling, with Mikey breaking through in his second over. The boys (Sheepy, Mikey, Grassy and Jase Ryan (0/29 of 5)) bowling well and kept Kilmore to 67 runs at drinks.
After drinks Matty D (0/19 of 7) and Seany D started back with some more good pressure bowling breaking the partnership of N.Monaghan and R.Cowell with the Mermaid pulling off a ripper stumping off Seany’s bowling (Kilmore 3/76). Six overs passed with Matty D and Seany D bowling a tight spell and Seany (2/18 of 6) bowling the opener R.Cowell out for 19 and Kilmore were 3/104 after 32 overs. Grassy (1/18 off 8), Mikey (2/27 off 8) and Sheepy (1/18 off 6) finished off Kilmore last 8 overs keep them too 6/138, a great bowling effort in these last overs to keep Kilmore’s good start to a gettable target.
With a score of 139 to chase down, the Pyalong boys started a bit sketchy being 2/3 off the first over. Jase Ryan (7) was the next to come in who looked nice and relax putting together a small partnership of 17 with Seany D, but he fell to a great ball that balled him out. Seany, Nick Bender and Lachy Bender were the next three batsmen to fall, Pyalong 6/33 after the 14th over.
With Mitch Webster at the crease and Matty D joining him, the boys kept the run rate ticking over. These two started a rebuild and put on another 39 run partnership to put some pressure back onto Kilmore’s bowlers. Mitch was playing some beautiful on drives, cover drives and leaving good balls, while Matty was anchoring down the other end, smacking the bad balls away. Unfortunately Matty D (17) was the next to fall, Kilmore had us 7/72. Mitch proceeded to play his shots and was looking real good in the middle until he got a ball that straightened and was struck L.B.W for 35.
The lack of runs had the last of our two batsmen (Mikey Fairweather and Brent Murton) under the pump trying to get us home but they fell to some really good bowling by Kilmore. Kilmore’s whole bowling innings had pressure on Pyalong from start to finish getting us all out for 101, losing by 38 runs.
This game was won on the back of some really good bowling and fielding by both teams but Kilmore did that a little bit better. Our batters need to work on patience, we are not having troubles with the run rates only troubles having batsmen left for the later overs to see our 40 overs out.
Get to training boys work on our techniques, play in the V until your eye is in!
Ta Seany.
Kilmore White 6/138
